Circuit Bending

Casio-Rapman

The Rapman is a sort of drum beat player with a scratch disc in end-of-the-eighties, "rap-look" style. It also has a keyboard, which can be played with a lot of preset sounds and with which many different beat loops can be chosen. Rapman's main attraction is a microphone IN, which goes through a 5-step pitch shifter, causing interesting effects. I quasi feedbacked this IN, so that I can route the complete sound of the instrument through the pitcher and vary its intensity.

I found 2 versions of da Rapman so far: the classic Rapman with voice pitcher, keyboard and scratch disc and a second model without keyboard, but with scratch disc. The beat loops are only partly different and the "little" Rapman has a whole row of scratchable samples on board, but no pitch shifter.
